“Only Wanna Be With You” by Post Malone

We interrupt this regularly scheduled programming to talk about a VERY important development in the music world.

As you all now know, I am a BIG Hootie & the Blowfish fan. So you can imagine my absolute shock when I received an email (yes, an EMAIL) from my Dad of a Rolling Stone article titled “Post Malone Covers Hootie and the Blowfish for Pokémon Day Celebration.”

Am I in a fever dream!? Is this real? ….wait, what does this have to do with Pokemon??????

I clicked on the link, half thinking it’s going to be spam, but lo and behold, the article popped up with the link to Spotify for the song. So here is a quick look into my internal monologue while listening to it for the first time.

““Wait, is this album cover a tail?”

“Okay, sounds pretty standard.”

“Um, were those bubble noises?”

You and meee, we come from other worlds

Okay, this is good.

Wait Cowboys make me cry!? So Darius meant the Miami Dolphins the whole time? I thought he meant legitimate dolphins.

I always thought that line was a little weird, but it makes SO much more sense now.

Weirdly enough I can understand the lyrics better when Post Malone is singing

Okay I’m really digging this guitar solo at the bridge.

Yeah I’m tangled up and blue …

IONLYWANNABEWITHYOUUUUU”

Moving on…

The joy I felt listening to that song was definitely a combination of things, not just the song itself. I remember it so vividly.

It was a gorgeous Friday afternoon. I just finished writing my blog post on Ants Marching by Dave Matthews Band, to give a point of reference for the weather, and wrapped up my work for my job with Callie’s for the weekend. I was done with my obligations for the week, and my parents were heading up with our puppy (her name is Quila, as in Tequila) for a few nights.

So I have all of this excitement built up for a legendary weekend … and then THIS?! The stars had aligned!

I think the best part about the day was the reactions the announcement garnered. Rolling Stone’s Twitter went CRAZY as people compared the headline to an Ad-Lib, and of course, they then created an ad-lib themed Instagram Story series to go along with the joke. It was immaculate.

I mean, of course, I had to post about it too. How could I not?!

Then, classmates, friends, and even mutual followers started texting me or responding to my Instagram story because they knew how much I loved Hootie & the Blowfish.

I was quite honored to receive such press, and I guess that cements Hootie & the Blowfish as a part of my personal brand.
